UNAI SDG Hub 6 Co-Chairs: Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence | University of Manitoba
The Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence is a multidisciplinary, student-centric research university established in 2011 by Shiv Nadar, one of India’s foremost philanthropists and a pioneer of technological revolution. It has four Schools, viz., Engineering, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management & Entrepreneurship, and the Academy of Continuing Education. We were the first university in the country to offer a 4-year multidisciplinary research degree. Today, we are continuing as trailblazers with new kinds of curriculum, championed by faculty drawn from some of the top institutions in the country and the world. With low faculty-student ratios, their in-depth attention to students lead to high levels of student success.
We are fully committed to the UN SDGs and biodiversity protection. These are integral to our core academic mission and institutional practices. Almost every department of the university offers courses on sustainability and is engaged in research in priority areas, including Energy, Environment, Data and Computation, Cognition, and Behaviour.

UNAI SDG Hub 6 Vice-Chair for Outreach and Partnership: Oakland University
Oakland University (OU) advances SDG 6 through research, fieldwork and regional and international partnerships. OU’s Storm Water Management Program reduces polluted runoff to the Clinton River AOC and fulfills EPA Phase II requirements, directly supporting Target 6.3 on water quality. On campus and in the watershed, faculty and students restore and study aquatic systems: OU helped the U.S. Army Corps and EPA reroute Galloway Creek to improve water quality, habitat and channel stability; the project restored 3,900 feet of stream. OU scientists also conduct under-ice sampling on Lake St. Clair with Michigan Sea Grant to understand winter ecology and drivers of harmful algal blooms – evidence-building for Targets 6.3 and 6.6. OU’s Biological Preserve and the new Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology (EEEB) degree provide field-based training for water ecology, while the Laboratory for Outdoor Research, Agriculture, Conservation, and Sustainability (LORACS) supports large-scale aquatic mesocosm experiments. OU’s longstanding collaboration with an array of partners, from the Clinton River Watershed Council right here in Oakland County to universities and research stations in Ecuador, Guatemala and other countries, fosters community engagement and aligns with Targets 6.a-6.b.
